Well, I have just come home from having a great time at Kay's Yarn shop,aka, " The Clubhouse". It was so good to see many of my friends I've not seen in awhile. OMG...if you weren't there you missed the stand up comedy routine by our own Ms. Barbara L. What a hoot. there was lots of food and we actually knitted as well.
thanks Kay for having a clubhouse we all love to come to and it was wonderful to see everyone and taste there treats.

We're back from Vegas with a new son-in-law. Alyssa was absolutley beautiful and the wedding was great. It turned into a little Elvis-fest with the bride and groom as props but everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves.

Back from a fun visit to California to see my daughter Alissa and my grandkids, Gavin and Mackenzie.

Also got to visit with my son, Brian and grandson Nathaniel while I was there.

Main reason for the trip was Mackenzie's dance recital. She's the second from the left.

Alissa, Mackenzie and I had a fun day at the American Girl Store. It was a complete surprise

to Mackenzie, where a doll awaited her at the luncheon. She originally named her "Kitty Sparkles".....sounded a little too 'pole-dancerish' to us ! So now she is "Sissy Sparkles"...

Didn't get much knitting done at all while gone. Was kept busy re-knitting and re-crocheting

Gavin and Mackenzie's baby blankets that they still sleep with. Trouble was, they have been

loved to shreds. I salvaged the center of hers and then re-crocheted it. Gavin's wasn't salvageable, so it went into mom's hopechest and he picked out new yarn and I made him

a new, smaller version.

And now that I'm home, I'm not knitting much due to this little fuzz-face. Cooper is keeping me busy. I'm either extracting my fingers from his mouth or chasing after him when he grabs a skein of yarn. So as soon as he takes a nap I try to grab my knitting and get a few rows done.

Am trying desparately to finish the Kimono Jacket. Kay, Kim, Jan and I are doing a knit-a-long and as soon as we all get the pieces done we're going to put together at the same time as Michelle tells us it's a little tricky.

Hi Knitters,

Everyone needs to see pictures from Kim's vacation. They are beautiful! Everyone looks like they are having a great time. Kim listed Mel's website in her last blog. As I am looking at the pictures, I am commenting to myself how good they are, really professional looking....as I read on, I see Mel is starting her own photography business. I wish her lots of success.

I am still working and working the same 20 rows of short-rowing. I want it to look the same on both sides but have finally decided it just can't because on one side the turns are on the purl stitches and the other side, they are on the knit stitches. That's it for my compulsiveness, I am going to have to ignore the difference if I want to finish the short sleeved top before winter.

My plan for today was to spin outside but it looks like it's going to rain. I'll just have to spin indoors. I have lots of roving to work up and I haven't even been to any wool fests in several years.

Hello from Japan. We are having a lovely and busy visit. Just wanted to show you that I managed to do a little knitting and finished Ella's dress. I was also glad to see that she likes her new turtle and her baby blanket has become a favorite. Not much time for knitting while we are sight seeing, beachcombing, computing, cooking, eating, shopping, etc. If anyone is interested, Mel has a blog, www.melfeldt.blogspot.com, where she has posted the photos she has taken of our visit. Sweets for the Sweet

Hi Knitters,

Just wanted to show you the Cupcake hat using the pattern Kay put in one of the recent KnitWit newsletters. I changed the yarn and needle sizes, using dk for the bottom and sportweight for the icing. It will fit a newborn. Soooo easy and fun.

Does anyone have any ideas for about 450 yds of merino sportweight yarn? It is cabled plied and shows patterns really well. I started a scarf using an offset pattern of K2tog, yo and then purling on the wrong side, making a fishnet look. While it is nice, it's a little boring and I think another pattern will show off the cabled plied yarn better. Let me know.

Knitting Leprechaun

Hi Knitters,

Thought I would get an early start on St. Patty's, besides the regular green beer I drink all year. Isn't he cute? The pattern came from 2005 Knitting Calendar. Knit up really fast and then sewed up sloooowly.

Also finished the Baby Surprise, which came out nicely. Everyone should do one just for the fun of the "surprise".

All of Jani's UFO finishing is sparking me to finish a few things. Now, I only have two projects on needles, but I don't know if it counts if the project was never started but all the supplies have been gathered. If so, then I have a ways to go to get even with Jani, and I am not about to injure my knee just to finish all the UFOs, (can't believe she did that).

Hello all my knitting friends,
My surgery to my right knee went well. They Doc. actually replaced my torn in half ACL with a cadaver ACL. Some very nice person( I'm hoping a very good skiier) donated their ACL to me.
I have been (as Kay wrote to me)Knitting myself to health!( not crazy). I am pulling out UFO's and getting several things completed. If I couldn't knit I probably would go crazy.
I go to therapy twice a wk, am not allowed to drive and have to wear my brace all the time even to sleep and have to be on crutches for 6 wks. The couch and the recliner are my best friends. I really like to watch the cooking channel, The Doctors show at 3PM on channel 3 and then Ellen.
All the while knitting of course.
Thank you for the cards that have been sent and some of you have ventured up to Alliance and have come and visited. My husband is the most wonderful man and care giver but visiting with other women have been great mental health times that I have appreciated more than you know.
Please other Thursday knitters blog so I can keep up with what is going on at the store and with everyone else.

Since I am not taking a class this semester, I have been knitting on my UFOs as well as starting many projects. Kay's new vest (shop model) is at the top of my list. Jane has already started. I also want to start the cover sweater in "French Girl Knits." Almost finished with a norwegian mitten that I began a couple of years ago. I'm afraid it is destined to be an only child.

Well, gotta go check the stove. I'm making gallons of soup today: chili and broccoli. Hope to see all of you at A Knitter's Fantasy. I will be the one teaching twined knitting.

Happy Winter
Sure has been cold the last few weeks. Shop has been slow and Thursday nights a bit sparse with knitter's. But when things are slow I get to knit more. Trying to finish some UFO's
( sound familiar?) and trying NOT to start any new things...yet.
Inventory is done and the newsletter will be arriving soon. Superbowl sale January 31 &
February 1.
Want to wish Jani my best as she is laid up with a bum knee from her skiing trip out west. Also working on teachers for Knitter's Fantasy April 4 at Cheney High School. Save the date.

Berets for Okinawa

Hi, I just thought I would post the berets I finished. Mel requested them for herself, Mailee, and Ella. They are on their way to Okinawa. It doesn't really get that cold there, but I think they want to be "in style." We leave tomorrow for Utah to visit Lora and the turquoise twist hat is for her. See everyone when we return in a week.

It's That Damn Vicodin

I've done it again!!

Set-up row: Since the treatment to my back, I have been well enough to do some things around the house, such as cleaning and sewing. I even painted the pantry, which needed it 5 yrs. ago. (yes, Den would do it, but I wanted to do it myself). I am trying to catch up on some things I started long ago and do some things I have wanted to do for ages. Since I am no longer home-bound, I have been able to leave the house to get supplies for those projects and do some general shopping (sheets, towels, etc.). This means I have been spending gobs of money!!

Row 1: Sometimes I take a Vicodin in order to do all the projects I have planned. When I am at home and take a Vicodin, I don't seem to notice any effect except pain relief, which then helps me to do whatever. As a rule, I am cautious about taking narcotic since they give me an unmentionable side-effect.

Row 2: In order for me to go to the shop last Thursday, I took a Vicodin to ward off any pain and be able to really enjoy myself. I type "enjoy" not in the euphoric narcotic sense, although that seems to be what happens.

Row 3: When I checked my wallet before leaving I did not "steal" from Den even though I only had one dollar. Because I have been spending so much money, I thought $1 would prevent me from buying more yarn. I though that was a great way for me not to spend more money for a while.

Row4: Jacquie and I arrived at the shop and started socializing. I was working on a pink tank top for my baby girl and started to tell Kay of my knitting saga of the last week. The saga was about how I had one row of the tank top completed even though I had been working on it for the past week, blah, blah, blah.....the pattern was translated into English from some Scandinavian language that assumes you already know how to knit the technique called for. This pattern was 10 stitches of stockinette and then 12 bobbles, repeated a zillion times. In my mind I was trying to work out a scenario of how I could tell Alyssa that I couldn't do this darling outfit of panties and tank top, but I pushed ahead.

Row 5: Kay pushed a new book in front of me, "Baby Beanies". Oh, those cute, pudgy faces and soft skin with the most adorable hats over their soft hair. I saw several hats I wanted to knit. I did want to buy the book, but not right then, maybe next time when I need yarn to knit up the outfits Alyssa tagged for me to knit. (Like Kim, I like to knit for someone that picks out the project, so I know they will wear and enjoy my effort).

Row 6: I had changed the pattern for the tank top. I made it into one piece instead of a separate back and front, that way, if I interpreted the pattern wrong, my new stitch would be knit it on both pieces. In short, it was a long row! So when I finished the second row, I put down my knitting and stretched my neck, my eyes falling on some beautiful pink and purple skeins on my left. They looked so soft, I got up to touch them and immediately fell in love.

Row 7: Now, my brain is churning out ideas of what to knit with it. Since it was pastels, I thought baby. I engaged Marlene and Flo in brain-churning with me. We decided on a cute flower hat with the top of hat looking like the base of a flower.

Row 8: The yarn was about $9 per skein, 90 some yards per skein. While I am buying the yarn, I might as well get the book too!

Row 9: Once home, I barely get in the door and I begin knitting the cute little purple hat. It's on a size 8 needle, the yarn is a little chunky, it's progressing rapidly. I keep knitting until I get tired and finally go to bed.

Row 10: Early the next day, I have an appointment and bring the hat with me, something to knit while I'm waiting. The yarn is so soft, it's a blend of merino, acrylic and cashmere. I begin to ask myself if this should be for a baby since it can't be tossed in the washer, and what was I thinking, spending almost $20 for a baby hat that will only be worn a short time. And, since Alyssa did not choose this pattern, I don't even know if it'll ever touch that baby's head even for a picture. And what did I buy another baby hat book for? Do I need more than one baby hat book, and where am I going to put another book? What was I thinking??? Oh boy, it's that damn Vicodin again!

Finishing: As I look at the yarn and try to think of what I could knit with it, I realize it matches perfectly with the pinkish leather jacket I'm wearing. Flo calls the jacket color "orchid". I think it is a mix of pink and purple and as I hold up the purple yarn it to, I realize it is a perfect match. Next time you see me, I'll be wearing a new tie-like scarf. And maybe I should reconsider taking Vicodin before I go into a yarn shop and leave my money and credit cards at home, (sorry, Kay) at least until I knit up a few more projects with the supplies I already have.

I hope I haven't become a blogging monster with these pictures now that I have figured out how to post them. Mailee has her own blog so she can keep in touch with all her family while they are in Okinawa and tonight I posted my first pictures. Anyway, I have to show you Ella as baby Shrek and a spider, Morgan as a nerd(very fitting), and Mailee as a poodle. Mel is very talented with these costumes. The kids had many parties and they were more than one thing, Morgan was also a rapper, Mailee a ninja and karate person. They seem to have so much fun. I still have a bit to learn about placing these pics in the right position when adding more than one.
Off knit topic, but who I knit for.

Hi, Have not been on here for quite a while and I heard I had to read Jane's post. Note to Jane: Codeine has a euphoric effect. That post made me lol as I understand the feeling.

I have just finished reading and posting to Mailee's blog. She sent me a picture of the piggy purse and it looks like she loves it. Mailee looks so grown up and has changed so much in the 6 months since they went to Okinawa. Mel takes such good pictures I have to insert two.
I sent Mailee picutures of the berets Mel requested for them. I have been busy and still have a few to make. It is fun to knit for someone who requests things as you know they will be appreciated. I'll try to post those pictures when the next hat is finished.
I have startitis right now, but luckily most of those projects are small ones.

Della brought Potato/Jalapeno soup today along with Pretzel bread and both were wonderful. Not to mention the chocolate cookies. Trying to forget I ate them.

I took all 4 dogs to Pam's yesterday for a visit. They never met her dog, Rosie, before and all got along fine. They were not all that interested in each other, but I do think Rosie was wondering who these little dogs were that were climbing all over the furniture.

Fall has Fell

The auction is done. As Bobbie said she was victorious. Marlene, Flo, Amy, Jacquie, and Jean were also successsful bidders. It was a fun activity and I hope no one was upset at the outcome. There are more models hiding in the back room for another time.
I am finishing my annual Christmas stocking for a customer and need to make one for Olivia as well. I sent off the final pairs of socks for Sally in PA...I mean it this time !!
Brooke asks everytime she is in "You make me something?" but can't decide on a color or item but expects it to be done that day.
I am trying like some of you to weed through the UFO's and start the many wonderful things I have seen for Fall and Winter.
Glad Jane is back and feeling better when she does not over-do. Babies are a great knitting stimulator.
Enjoying the Indian Summer weather and lovely leaves ( since I don't rake them )

caused you to get your knitting Mo-Jo back Jane, we're just so happy to see
you again !!

On the Pumpkin Surprise, if you are using regular canned pumpkin, follow
the recipe as listed except add 1 1/2 cups sugar.

But if you are using the canned Pumpkin Pie Filling (it comes with the spices and sugar already added and you only need 2/3 of a can of evap. milk.

I just had to put another pan of it in the oven. I had made some extra the other night and it was to be dessert for Sunday when my Dad and his new bride come over for dinner, but Lee decided it would make a good breakfast for him.
His rationale is that "it has a vegatable in it, so it's healthy !"

Hi Thursday Knitters,

That was such a nice welcome I received Thursday night. I am so glad I felt well enough to visit. It is good to be back amongst the yarn-aholics. My knitting desire returned full force on the ride home. I think that you might enjoy the story of how I got my knitting mojo back.

First I have to tell you that I have not been knitting much. I have been having neck problems that are aggravated with activity that requires my head bent down, knitting, reading, sewing etc. The nerve blocks have helped. I have two easy, small projects from February that still are on the needles. And with the grand baby coming, I have to get the mojo to start knitting all the patterns that Alyssa marked for me to knit.

To make this story interesting, you have to know that I am still in the process of redecorating the family room. It has been on hold for about a year and it'll probably take another year to complete. Once I was able to tolerate shopping, I finally found a sofa I like. It is longer than the old one, so the bookshelf had to go. On her last visit home, Alyssa took the bookshelf, so all my books are in boxes. Knitting and spinning magazines are in piles on the floor awaiting a new home. I am trying to get rid of stuff as all my storage is new two new dressers Dennis built. Books and magazines are too heavy to put in drawers. Anyway, all my yarn is in the drawers. I guess I hoping the books and magazines will magically put themselves away. Now you have the background for the following story.

On Thursday I woke up quite stiff, uncomfortable and miserable . Things did not get better after taking my regular medications, so I decided to take a Vicodin and get into a hot bath. While getting dressed, I decided to go to Knit Wits and visit everyone. I brought along two baby projects that have been on the needles for weeks. I should be able to finish them both in a couple of hours.

While driving down 62, I begin to squirm trying to find a position that would make my hips stop yelling at me. I realized that I probably should not be going anywhere, maybe I was being too hasty and didn't think about how miserable of a day I was having earlier. I had the next few days to rest before I have a commitment, so I forged ahead. Once I could see all the Thursday Knitters around the table, all pain subsided. As I was gabbing with Marlene, I could feel the Vicodin take hold.

After eating, gabbing and knitting until I came to a stopping point, I started looking at the books and magazines on the table. Every pattern was gorgeous and I just had to have it. I ended up buying the book, "Boutique Knits" and two magazines, "Vogue" with the knitted bracelets on the cover and "Interweave Knits", the holiday gift issue. I usually don't buy books as I don't have space to store them. My criteria for buying books/mags is that I will knit up 2-3 patterns in each and I found many patterns in each that I must knit.

On the ride home, I was talking up a storm with myself, yes, out loud! "I have my mojo back, yew-hoo". It felt so good to get that knitting inspiration back. My head was just swarming with patterns and yarns. I started organizing a list of what I would knit and when. "I'm back!" "Herrrrrre's Janey, she's back!" Me, (impersonating Jack Nicholson), looking through a pile of yarn instead of a chopped up wooden door, what a sight!!

Once I go home, I went on-line to look up Nashua Knits. They are introducing a new magazine and the sweater on the advertisement says "that's a Jane sweater". Jani and Marlene both agree. While I am searching all their patterns in the numerous books in print, I see many projects with my name on them. I can't afford all those books! It's two in the morning and I was still looking, I gotta get to bed.

The next morning, I walk into the family room and see a mess of knitting stuff and some sewing stuff. Piles of knitting and spinning magazines on the floor. Boxes of books stacked next to them. Numerous plastic, paper, cloth and knitted bags are hanging on coat hooks and door knobs, in addition to being propped up against chairs. All these bags hold some kind of knitting paraphernalia, and there's a bag of things for Jackie and a bag of books to go back to the guild library. I haven't found a spot for the stuff I bought at Kay's last week, I look around and tell myself that I've got to clean up. I admonish myself, "where am I going to put all this and then I had to go and buy more, jeez Jane".

I have my coffee, put on i-Tunes and play "Spider", trying to ignore the morning stiffness and pain. Caffeine kicks in and I begin to think about my knitting trip last night. I look at one of the magazines I left on the computer table. Yeah, that looks like a Jane sweater, even in my favorite dark purple, but I don't want to knit it. Do I really need another dark purple sweater? I begin to focus my thoughts away from yarn and knitting. I eat breakfast, take a bath, get dressed. I'm moving slowly and feeling like a semi-truck ran over me in the middle of the night. As I try to put all the knitting stuff in some king of order, I again think about my knitting trip last night. I ask myself why I felt so inspired last night and today I don't have an ounce of mojo. What's up with that? I keep thinking about it and finally go over my day beginning with my morning coffee, once I recall the day and the gabbing with Marlene, (refer to paragraph 5) I figure it out......My knitting mojo was that darn Vicodan!!!!

Here is Pam's recipe for the pumpkin squares that she brought to Kay's last night. For anyone who wasn't there and didn't get to try one of these, we all thought they were wonderful! Thanks for sharing the recipe Pam.

On the Pumpkin Surprise, if you are using regular canned pumpkin, followthe recipe as listed except add 1 1/2 cups sugar.But if you are using the canned Pumpkin Pie Filling (it comes with the spices and sugar already added and you only need 2/3 of a can of evap. milk.

Pam's Pumpkin Squares

1 large can pumpkin

1 can evaporated milk

12 tsp cinnamon

14 tsp of nutmeg

2 eggs

1 dry yellow cake mix

1 C chopped pecans

1 stick of butter

Mix first 5 ingredients (pumpkin, evaporated milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and eggs) all together.

Pour into a 13X9 pan

Sprinkle dry yellow cake mix over top

1 C of chopped nuts over top

Melt the stick of butter and pour over all

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes

Cool and refridgerate

Cut into square

This is Emily Grace,,my little grandaughter...She is almost 6mos old now and I am having the time of my life helping care for her.

Tonight was like old times at Knit Wit Knits...a lot of the old gang was there helping Kim celebrate her birthday. Flo ordered wonderful pasta and others brought things like Pasta salad, salad, cheese cake, banana bread, Veggies...so we were all full when leaving.

I am looking forward to the "SHEEP OVER" and will enjoy unlimited knitting...

I am happy yet sad to be home from Nebraska. I miss holding my youngest grandchild and first granddaughter. As you can see from the above picture the baby is into smiling even when she is asleep. My experiences began in June when my husband and I drove to Columbus to meet Alex, Jaime's step-son, at the Columbus Airport. Alex and I then flew to Bellevue, Nebraska, which is just below Omaha. Jaime and Joe picked us up and and during the drive home Rose, Jaime's girlfriend from Ohio, called and wanted to secretly find out what we were doing that evening. I managed to recall Rose while making it seem as if I were calling my daughter-in-law Susan. Once Rose caught on she was able to arrange her plans for a surprise visit that night. About an hour later when we heard the door bell ring we told Jaime that it was probably the UPS man with another shower gift. We became very busy at that moment so Jaime mumbled that we were causing the pregnant lady to walk all the way up the steps and didn't we feel bad? Jaime's father-in-law opened the door even though I had asked him not to. So when Jaime cleared the kitchen she was met by her friends Rose and Jeff. Talk about a surprise. She was shaking, crying, smiling, laughing, and turning white all at the same time. That turned out to be the surprise of the century for Jaime. The next day I had arranged to give a shower for Jaime which was a huge success then later that evening we had tornado warnings all over Omaha, Bellevue, and the surrounding area. Everyone in the house stayed down in the basement for hours. Later it was broadcast that several people had been hurt and one killed during this tornado. Eight days later June 19, 2008, Moira Nicole was born at 1:25 PM about 15 foot away from where I sat. The rest of my time in Nebraska continued to be taken up with laundry, food preparation, chasing Alex, and holding Moira. But eventually my husband John arrived to drive me home. The night before we left there was another tornado in our same area which left a lot of torn limbs, trees down, and general ground messiness. But since we didn't leave until after 2 PM most of the debris had been cleaned up. Late that evening we arrived in Decatur, IL, where our son Jason and his family live. Upon arriving home in Ohio I visited my mother then 12 hours had to take her to the hospital where she stayed for a week. I now believe that the doctors have her blood pressure, and other problems solved until the next time. I am so excited about Moira. As you can imagine I have, of course, knitted a blanket, booties, sweaters, a hat, and can only say that this is the beginning of a long line of knitting that I will be doing. I have been collecting little girl patterns for years. And I have a large stash of little girl colors. Now I need T_I_M_E. Anyone have some to lend me? Jacq

CAULIFLOWER AU GRATIN

Boil Cauliflower head about 15 min or until al dente. Cut up and place in casserole.

In sauce pan warm:

1 C. half & half
½ C. mayo
1 egg
1 ½ C. shredded cheddar
½ C feta cheese

Pour over cauliflower, salt and pepper. Crush sleeve of Ritz crackers over top. Bake @ 350, 35 – 40 minutes.
I used fat free or low fat items for sauce and topped w/ crushed pretzels

HOT OLIVE MIXTURE

Place in foil pouch:

Any kind of olive mixture (from olive bar at grocery if you have one)
Red pepper flakes
Fennel seeds
Peel from 1 orange
Peel from 1 lemon
Drizzle olive oil over ( might not need much as olived from bar have oil already)

Fold and seal pouch

Bake in pouch @ 350 until warm.

Potatoes, Zucchini, Eggplant, Onion and Tomato Gratin

5 tsp. Olive oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb. Yukon gold potatoes, peeled
1 medium zucchini (about 8 ounces)
1 medium eggplant
1 large onion
2 vine-ripened or other ripe tomatoes (about ¾ lb), sliced into 1/4 –inch rounds
¼ tsp. Coarse salt
Freshly ground pepper
1 tsp. Finely chopped fresh thyme
2 ounces finely grated white cheddar cheese

1. Preheat oven to 375 with rack in upper third. Coat a 9 x 13 inch gratin dish with 1 tsp. Oil, and sprinkle with garlic. Using a mandoline or very sharp knife, slice potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, onion, and tomato as thinly as possible into rounds. Arrange potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, onion and tomatoes in overlapping layers around prepared dish, and sprinkle with the salt and pepper. Drizzle with remaining 4 tsp. Oil, and sprinkle with thyme and cheese.

Thanks for the info Marilyn. I ended up basting the side seams, sewing it twice with a stabilizer underneath. Then cut off the excess 5" on both sides and then zig-zagging the raw edges. Fits much better now !!

Anyone who missed this Thursday night's knitting missed a feast! Marlene made some awesome chicken and baked beans. Amy had an awesome macaroni salad, probably the best one I've ever had. Kim made some to die for potatoes, with fresh green beans and garlic. We had a couple of cakes, no one went home hungry. I finally started knitting after I ate for a solid hour.

i have a friend who sews and knits. she told me to use solvy to take in the seams of a sweater that is too big. you double the solvy for stability. you make a sandwich using the solvy on the outside and the sweater on the inside. then sew up the seams, cut the excess, then place in water and the solvy will dissolve. good luck! marilyn

After finally finishing my lavender t-shirt top, patiently sewing the
"fun" side seams together. I put it on and it's huge ! The length is
perfect, I love it but could fit two of me in it. So, I've never sewed
over knitting before. Will that work so I can take it in at least 2-3 "

Am loving knitting on a new project. A side to side sweater that I
started at the shop yesterday. The colors keep changing so even
though it's garter stitch, it stays interesting.

So I guess I will just knit on that and ponder the lavender shirt later.

Jani's Big Adventure

I'm about ready to fly to Colorado(Fri the 20th). My husband and friends are already there. they have driven their motorcycles. Toni will pick me up @ Denver airport. We will tour Colorado for 6 days before we head East for home. As my husband and his group rode out there, they saw shadow Pony Express riders, as big as billboards, a Pony express station, the middle of the continental US(North and South), prairie dogs, the largest ball of twine in the US, lots of horrible devastation from the floods, Mark Twains home in Hannibal, Missouri. Brace yourselves for higher prices on cantalopes and other melons and vegatbles that they grow in our midwest as the floods have ruined so many crops and those peoples livelyhoods.
I miss my knitting friends, all of you! It seems like it has been forever. I am knitting.
I check the blog on occasion. Are any of you out there??? Why no blogging? How are those of us that can't get to the "Club House" suppose to keep up with what is going on??
I applaud your efforts for the Cancer Walk. I am so proud of all of you, especially Kay and Barry for the shops support. I hope you have good weather. My thoughts will be with you.

Even though I had to go with 2 kids in tow, I thought it was very well organized. I was there for about 3 hours. Didn't get to take either of my classes, but had a nice time quickly perusing the market and having lunch with friends. I don't usually like pasta salad, but theirs was good.

The only thing I purchased was one pattern and can't wait to start. I haven't been in the mood for knitting lately so hopefully this will get me back on track. I did, from Kim's inspiration, make a "Scarf in the Round" for a Chinese auction at school. I have started another and may give it to a fellow teacher who is retiring this year.

FYI: Have any of you heard of Ravelry? https://www.ravelry.com/account/login It is an online knit/crochet community that seems to be growing exponentially. I've found reference to it on several blogs. Check it out! I have put my name on the waiting list for membership.

Knitters Fantasy

As a Partcipant I thought Knitters was great. I understand there were lots of problems( behind the scenes). Coming and enjoying the day, shopping the vendors, going to my class, the venue was all good. The lunch was very ordinary. The style show lady didn't have much puszazz but she managed to put up with us. The class rooms were well marked. The big vendor room was good, easy to navigate. Jane I don't know how to post pictures. I think of you often.
I'll see if Kim can post some of our knitted and in progress items.

That picture of Flo is absolutely great. I love the caption, it made me LOL.

Since I am not able to get to the shop or guild meetings, I really miss seeing what everyone is working on. I need a "Blog and Brag" fix. Can someone post some pictures of what they are working on? I would love to see the swing coat Kay is working on.

This year, I will not be going to Knitters Fantasy and I am really bummed. Can someone post some pictures for me? I am also interested in the new venue.

I haven't been knitting lately, I seem to have lost my knitting mo-jo and I want it back. I am slowly working on a lace scarf, out of some Lorna's lace-weight pink yarn. It is worked in two pieces and I am ready to start the second piece. I usually have to re-start lace over and over. I hope I can keep concentrated enough to go through the pattern row by row and remember the change I made in the pattern (2 months ago).

last ski trip

Well I'm back from the last trip. Colorado is beautiful covered in snow. Our weather was crisp and sometimes too warm. We had great snow..one day we had 13-20 inches in one day!
We skiied everyday, we shopped and ate ..Oh and had a glass of wine or 2or 3.
We found a yarn shop in downtown Aspen. The nice owner was interested in what we were knitting. She carried an assortment of Blue Sky Alpaca products and some MainMoon items.
Buffalo hank @50% off. Her shop was small.
There were people on this trip from other ski clubs and we made alot of new friends.
I took my top down sweater and a new sock to work on. Everyone was interested in my knitting.
The hotel had a Living Room setting in front of the fireplace. That was our meeting place and my knitting spot.
I'm glad to see Spring is really trying to arrive now that I'm home.
Can't wait for Knitters Fantasy. It will be sooo good to see all of you.
I'm taking Mobieus cast on.

Upside Down Jacket

Just wanted to drop by and say "Hello". I'm sorry I missed everyone at the March Guild meeting. We had a very difficult foster child and Children's Services was coming at 7:00 to move her. I would much rather have been enjoying seeing everyone's new knitted bags!
I'm working away on Kay's Upside Down Jacket pattern and only have about ten more inches of the final 2x2 ribbing section to go. I love this pattern and plan to adapt it to worsted weight and DK weight yarn so I can make myself a few more for summer. I hope to have this one and a matching knit t-shirt done for Knitter's Fantasy. Thanks for all your hard work on the pattern Kay! I just love it. I'll post a picture when it's finished.

Spring has sprung but you would not know it from the temperature. Should keep us in the mood to knit those winter UFO's.
I finished the pair of socks for a customer in PA. Also finished the sleeves for the green swing coat. Now I need to sew it together and do the collar. It is a model for Fantasy. Have several things I want to finish by then. Hopefully you have sent your reservation in I am sure classes are filling up quickly.
Love Flo's picture. Believe it or not she has already knit that big hank up. She has been under the weather going on 3 weeks now.

Toni & I are taking Fred Astair dance classes.Yeah,with 7-10 couples from our HOG chapter. It's really fun but they are on Thurs nite. So that is one more thing keeping me from our Thur nite group. I have come to the store Thurs day time when it is my scheduled day off work. I have been able to see some of my friends.
I am coming to the Super Sale Saturday and maybe even Sunday also. On Saturday I am bringing my friend Jesse, from work. I have been teaching her to knit at lunch time. She is a very good student picking up knitting like a duck to water. Hope to see many of you Saturday.

Hi gang,
I miss you all. However, my ski trip to Winterpark, Co. was fabulous. We had 10 inches of powder and sun the first day. 3-5 inches of new snow everyday. I finished my new skinney scarf while I was there. Managed to knit several rows of Mariah and Henry's (the alpaca's names) Pi w/ sleeves while on plane coming and going. I'm on my way to NY to ski tomorrow but will be home Fri. nite. I have the weekend off and Mond is a holiday... will try and come to the shop.

Lurker no more!!!

Hi everyone!

Well, as you can see, I am a lurker no longer. I really hate that I missed the potluck, but I was getting things together for my very first craft fair ever. I think I'm addicted, now. My primary products were bears that I have been making from ~~recycled~~ ahem VINTAGE felted sweaters. (There's a whole story behind that I'll have to share someday.) They're really cute, and look a little more like koalas than bears when I use ribbing on the bridge of the nose. I'll have to post pictures some day. In addition, I made scarves on the machine that turned out really, really nicely (and quickly, too!). In fact, there was one scarf I was reluctant to sell because I liked it so much. I'm going to knit another one ASAP. One lady even asked if I could make a ruana for her.

All in all, for a first timer and not having any idea of how to make my table look inviting, etc. I did pretty well and made almost $200.00 for the show. I also got lots of tips from other booth owners about marketing my table and making things look pretty and more "saleable."

I was planning to stop in on Saturday, but there's be snow forcasted for the weekend, so I think I better play it safe and try a later time. Hope everyone's doing fine!

Great night tonight. Flo was back from Maryland and Jesse stopped in. The table was full and there were several changes as one or two people left and others came. Enjoy listening to all the chatter and seeing projects change as you finish one and go on to another.
I have almost all the "obligation" knitting done. Have a sweater to put together and am working on Olivia's stocking.
Had a request for 2 stockings today by Christmas ...made no promises but lady was so glad to find someone to make them...so we'll see how it goes.

Yet Another Gathering Opportunity

Next Friday and Saturday Nov 30 and Dec 1 is the Christmas Openhouse in Salem. Friday there will carriage rides and strolling carolers. Luminaries will be up and down State St. Knit Wits will be open until at least 8 and maybe as late as 9. Come and keep me company. Saturday at 1 is the parade and other activities downtown.
The holiday season is upon us....what is everyone working on for gifts? Will you make it in time?I have mittens to make for a customer a stocking for Olivia and a sleeve for a customers UFO. I am currently working on a car seat blanket for the aforementioned Olivia, a original Upside down coat and a diagonal knit cardigan and an Einstein. These are the NEW UFO's ....won't go into the others .

Yay Peggy is back home where she belongs. I know Kim is very relieved and I am sure her son Brad is glad the experience is over.

I am thankful for my family...all the little people who will grace our table tomorrow and those too far away to come and feast.
I am thankful for our country and the men and woman who are away from home this Thanksgiving defending it.

I hope all my knitting friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day tomorrow.
We're taking my dad out with us as I don't think my "new" knee would withstand
all the cooking etc. (good excuse anyway ! )
I'm thankful that all my family and friends are doing well. That my daughter
Sheri's neurosurgeon is going to fix her back on the 30th. And that her
husband will be able to come home from Iraq to be with her for 6-8 weeks.
That means that my grandsons will have their dad home for the Christmas,
so that's an extra special blessing.
I'm so thankful for all my friends at Knit Wits who help each other thru
every "crisis" whether large or small. It's cheap therapy and we always seem
to get some laughs and hugs or a good cry when we need it.

PEGGY IS BACK!! A man called me this morning saying he thought he had my dog. He was traveling east on Western Reserve (not a block from our house) and saw the poster at 45 and Western. I had him describe her and it sounded like Peggy. We met him at McDonalds (next to Petland. ha.) and it sure was Peggy. I guess someone in his family had picked her up on Western and she went from one sister's house to another and now he took her. No one wanted her. Well, WE DO and now we have her. I'm off to the vet's shortly to get his microchip stuff straightened out. Thank you all my great friends for caring so much and hoping for Peggy to return. I'm sure you'll see us very soon.

It was a great night sorry so many of you missed it. It snowed like crazy but didn't accumulate at all on my way home...I was thankful for that.
I am finishing up on a sweater with Kay's help,,,thank goodness for her, I can sure tell you that.
It was fun to have a new person tonight...I already have forgotten her name but Amy invited her and she is learning how to knit,,If she would stop talking long enough...I challenged her to finish her first project to "show & tell" in 2 weeks...She is making a scarf...:-)

Where does all the time go. Thanks for all the kind words about the retreat. It is fun to organize and a delight to attend for me too. Ask Jan what she found in her knitting bag after she arrived!
My Mom is here and enjoys seeing everyone at the shop. Knitted a hat for Dylan, finished a dress for Brooke and a scarf for Stefani. Working on a capelet from Knit Stitch by SallyMelville. Leaves next Monday.
I finished the miles of edging on the Pi shawl. Allowed myself to start a diagonal jacket knit from Taos. The pattern has been on my wishlist for over a year. Working on Christmas stockings for 2 customers and one for Miss Olivia, Now 6 weeks old. Must finish her car seat blanket since it is getting cold.
REMEMBER Nov 10 through 17 the Southwest Trading "Boot Camp " trunk show will be at the shop. 10th and 17th come and learn to knit socks. Features Tofutsie yarn but check out the new sock yarn from Collinette.
There was a series of articles on Knit Daily about UFO's I want to compile the info and share it with you all...there were 65000 UFO's admitted to in their survey !
Knit Pink last Saturday resulted in a $50.00 contribution to Breast Cancer research. (10% of days sales)

Kay, thank you so much for th Sheep Over! I had more fun this time than the first time.
I loved the needle felting. I didn't think I would so the moral is to try something different every so often then make your judgement, don't pre judge.
Toni has a candidates "meet n greet" or it could be "get in the skillet and fry" thing tonite so I won't be at the Shop again! I keep thinking "this week I'll get there" and something else comes before it. Saturday I work and then more campaigning.

Pam, I don't know how you could write anything so coherent at 12AM.

What a fun 2 days! Kay is the most low-key, organized person I know. Everything went so smoothly. Knitting, eating, knitting, eating, talking, laughing, eating, knitting. The needle-felting was more fun than I imagined. Seeing the "overachieving-knitters'" finished show-and-tells was inspiring and motivating. Will I ever reach that point? Pia was a fun addition and everyone seemed enthralled with her description of yarn dying and painting.

Next year I'm spending the night. I'm sure they are dog-friendly at the Inn-- I'll just ask for a 1st floor room.
